Law changes have seen a rise in those wishing to trace Relatives; we advise that those searching should contact their Local Social Services Department or After Adoption Organisation to start the ball rolling. If the Organisation of your choice does not have a Researcher in place, we are happy to introduce ourselves with a view to taking on your search.
Adoptees
It is important to access your Birth File. Your File may hold important information that can aid your search however all we need initially is your original birth name and birth date. A report will be sent to your Intermediary of which you will have full access. It is stressed that Born to be Found does not offer Counselling or Mediation but can offer you details of After Adoption Organisations and Independent Mediators.
Birth Family
In Dec 2005 the Law changed to allow Birth Parents the right to seek their child. This right is extended to Birth Siblings. A Birth Parent/Sibling can apply to their Local Social Services Department or After Adoption Support Organisation to set the wheels in motion.
A Birth Parent must understand the following:
- Before a Case is referred to a Researcher the Social Services or the After Adoption Support Organisation will check to make sure that the Adoptee has not placed a veto against being contacted within their file.
- Researchers seeking an Adopted Adult work under Non-Disclosure Guidelines; all information is kept in confidence submitted solely to the Mediator/Counsellor working on behalf of the Birth Parent/Sibling.
- A Birth Parent will only learn the name of the Adopted Adult when the Adoptee is found and agrees to the release of their details.
In contrast, Adoptees are lawfully able to learn the details of their Birth Parents names and addresses where such information is found in the public domain.
Born to be Found are proud of their quick response times and high success rates.
